A How do I care for and preserve the exterior metal parts of the revolver ?
Q To prevent rust on exposed steel surfaces, we recommend the application of a thin coating of a carnauba-based wax, followed by a light coat of oil. When using your gun in inclement weather, wipe it down thoroughly before storing it in a gun case.
A What kind of powder can I use in my Pietta black powder revolver ?
Q Only black powder or Pyrodex should be used in your cap and ball revolver. Use of any other powder can cause catastrophic damage to the revolver and possible injury to the shooter.

1f or Fg - largest granulation type, to be used mainly with big caliber firearms
2f or FFg - to be used with .50 cal. firearms and .10, .12, .16 and .20 ga. side by side
3f or FFFg - standard granulosity, recommended for .31, .36 and .44 cal. revolvers
4f or FFFFg - granulosity used for flintlock primers only
A What size ball do I use in my revolver ?
Q .31 caliber revolvers use a .322 ball.
.36 caliber revolvers use a .375 ball.
.44 caliber revolvers use a .454 ball.
A What maintenance do I need to do on my Pietta black powder revolver ?
Q Black powder is hydrophilic, meaning it attracts water, which accelerates the formation of rust and corrosion. This makes it very important that your revolver be thoroughly cleaned and oiled after every day’s shooting. The bore and exterior surfaces should be cleaned and oiled. Any pivot points (i.e., loading lever, cylinder pin, etc.) should also be oiled at the end of the day. There are several black powder solvents on the market that do a fine job of cleaning fouling, or you can use hot soapy water. Whichever cleaning method you use, care should be taken not to let excessive water or solvent into the action of the revolver.
A What maintenance do I need to do on my Pietta Single Action revolver ?
Q This will vary greatly, depending on the number of rounds fired and the type of powder in the shells. The bore and exterior surfaces should be cleaned and oiled after every outing. Any pivot points (i.e., loading gate hinge, cylinder pin, etc.) should also be oiled at the end of the day.
A How can I load my Pietta Lemat revolver ?
Q We recommend the following ball sizes for the two different calibers of this gun :

.44 cal.: .454" (mm 11,55) -(part no. 8)
.20 ga. : round grapeshot balls .27 cal. (mm 6,85) approx 3/4 ounce to 1 ounce

After loading the cylinder and the center barrel, NEVER place any cap on the nipple under the hammer, for the .20 ga. The cap could be misplaced (too high) causing a double percussion which would fire 2 shots simultaneously.
